The City of Asheville is Hiring a Purchasing Coordinator Near Asheville, NC

Summary

About our opportunity:

The City of Asheville is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Purchasing Coordinator in the Purchasing division of the Finance and Management Services Department. The Purchasing division delivers excellent customer service to all of the City's departments and vendors by ensuring governmental purchasing principles are being followed for all forms of procurement including purchase orders and surplus.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Process purchase order and purchase requisitions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with city policy and procedures.
  • Coordinate the sale of surplus property for the city, managing bid activities and documents
  • Issue Requests for Quotes (RFQs) and small informal bids, evaluating submissions and making recommendations.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws, rules and regulations governing purchasing activities
  • Perform various administrative tasks, including data entry, record-keeping through the city’s ERP system and Google Suite
  • Provide excellent customer service to City department and vendors

About you:

We know your time is valuable. Applicants who meet the following minimum requirements or have comparable experience and/or education will be considered:

  • Associate degree in Accounting, Business, or related field
  • Two years of experience in governmental purchasing or finance
  • Ability to operate office equipment and software proficiently
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to obtain Certified Local Government Purchasing Certification within 3 years

Other things to know:

  • Work Schedule: 37.5 hours/week Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM. Hybrid schedule available with approval.
